The numbered plank marks the reward box, and the same two numbers also name somewhere else on the map. Decide who walks and who waits before either of you leaves.
The waiting player stays on the numbers. Standing there does not open anything by itself, and staying put is the entire job until the other half of the puzzle is held down.
The walking player heads for the remote interaction those numbers point at. It is a different place from the clue, so the journey is part of the puzzle rather than an approach to it.

Activate the remote interaction at the target and keep it active. What it changes is back at the box, not beside the player standing on it, so this spot may look like nothing happened.

With the remote interaction still active, Player A opens the box at the clue and takes the Gourd. The box only stays open while the hold is maintained, and both ends have to be doing their part at the same moment.

The puzzle is finished once the Gourd is out of the box. If the box shut again, put both players back in position and repeat the hold, then the opening. Collecting the reward and the challenge state registering are two separate steps.
