Quick Answer

Backpacks sit inside blue round or spiral bag pavilions around the island, and six of those pavilions are verified Backpack locations. Pick one up, then have another player attach it to your back. Wearing it is also what unlocks Big Pack.

Where Do You Want to Start?

What Does a Backpack Look Like?

The Backpack is not shaped like a normal bag, which is why players walk straight past the thing they came for.

Looks like

An open rack-like frame in a bright colour — that frame standing inside the pavilion is the Backpack itself.

Not like

A soft fabric backpack with shoulder straps. If you are searching for that shape, you are looking for the wrong object.

Once a teammate attaches it

A compatible item rides with the Backpack instead of occupying your hands, so your group can move one more thing at a time.

What Does a Backpack Location Look Like?

Every Backpack waits inside a small pavilion, so spotting the structure is most of the search.

  • Blue
  • Round or spiral
  • Short ramp
  • A Backpack frame inside

Which one do you reach first?

Players on the opening island route past the Drawbridge pass Red Cone first, so that pavilion tends to be the earliest Backpack.

All Backpack Locations

These are the pavilions where a Backpack is actually waiting. Other pavilions in the world hold hip gear only, so not every blue building you pass has one.

How to Equip a Backpack

You cannot put a Backpack on your own back. A second player does the attaching for you.

  1. 1

One player picks the Backpack up.

  2. 2

Both players stand next to each other.

  3. 3

The player holding it attaches it to the other player.

  4. 4

The Backpack now counts as worn rather than carried.

Playing alone? You can hold a Backpack, but you cannot wear one — the equip step needs a teammate.

Until it is attached, a Backpack is just another prop in your hands.

Worn one already?

Your answer is remembered on this device only.

How to Use a Backpack

A worn Backpack gives your group one more place to put a compatible item, so nobody has to hold it.

Three ways to carry something

  • Back — a compatible item riding on the Backpack.
  • Hip — hip gear, which is a separate system.
  • Hands — anything you can lift and hold.
  1. 1

Make sure the Backpack is worn.

  2. 2

Pick up an item that supports Backpack storage.

  3. 3

Use the storage interaction on it.

You know it worked when

  • ✓ The item is no longer in your hands.
  • ✓ It rides with the Backpack instead.

Some route objects follow their own rules, so not everything can be stored. If an item refuses to attach, check whether that item supports Backpack storage before treating it as a bug.

Backpack or Hip Bag?

Both are bags you wear, which is why the two get mixed up. They are different slots with different achievements.

One does not stand in for the other. Wearing a hip bag will not award Big Pack, and a Backpack will not award Big Help.

Can This Item Go in the Backpack?

Type an item to see which carry method it uses.

Type at least two characters to check an item.

Backpack Missing?

Work through these in order. Most missing Backpacks come from a finished session rather than a bug.

  1. 1A session just ended

Anything you were holding or wearing when the host ended the game is waiting in Lost & Found at the start of the next session.

  2. 2You put it down this session

Walk your route back. A dropped Backpack stays where you left it until the session ends.

  3. 3You are in a different world

Make sure you are continuing the same hosted journey before you assume it is gone.

Backpack Not Working?

Pick the symptom that matches what you are seeing.

I can't put it on

You cannot attach a Backpack to yourself. Ask another player to attach it to your back.

Big Pack Achievement

The requirement is one line, but it is easy to think you have met it when you have not.

Official requirement

Wear a backpack.

Leg einen Rucksack an.

Picking one up is not enough

  1. 1Pick up a Backpack.
  2. 2A teammate attaches it to your back.
  3. 3The Backpack becomes worn.
  4. 4Big Pack registers from that worn state.

If Big Pack has appeared, the game has registered the Backpack as worn. That is your confirmation that the equip step worked.

Holding a Backpack and wearing one look almost the same on screen, so check your character rather than your hands.

Where you are now

  • ○ Backpack picked up
  • ○ Backpack worn on your character
  • ○ Big Pack

Not worn yet — the achievement is still ahead of you.
